    EAST WINCH AIRFIELD

Head east out of village along A47 and turn left signed East Walton (if you cross the stream and enter West Bilney you've gone too far). Airfield is on left after a mile. Ask in the hangars for access, friendly enough, though you are only allowed to log from outside the hangars, the owner isn't too keen on spotters. RAF MARHAM AIR BASE

    Spotting Info
East of Fincham village, alongside the A1122. As you head east on the A1122 away from Fincham, you'll pass a copse on your left and a road (Fincham Road) on your right. Shortly afterwards, pull over into the lay-by on the left. There's only room for a few cars and it's a popular place for the regulars as there's a good view over the base and there aren't many other places to spot from. If there's no room here there could be room either side of the entrance to Fincham Road that you just passed. At the main entrance, XH673 Victor, XH169 Canberra and ZA407 guard the gate and are visible from the road leading down towards the security barrier.

    NORTH DENES HELIPORT - A/G 123.4

    Spotting Info
Just north of Great Yarmouth off A149. As you leave the town, you go past a golf course and you'll then be able to see into their hangars if they're open. You will see a narrow concrete track with roughly yellow painted poles with CHC Scotia on a notice. Turn down here and follow the track around the side of the airfield. As you go down this road anything on the small ramp can be read off. If you go right past the back of the hangars into a car park you can look back on to the apron. There are also windows at the back of the hangars that might get you one or two more. Head inside the terminal and if you ask politely at the check-in desk if any helicopters are due in they should let you know what is due in and when.

    NORTHREPPS AIRFIELD - A/G 129.825

    Spotting Info
Alongside the A149 about a mile north of Thorpe Market village. If the weather is good, this can be a busy place, especially during their events and is a favourite with pilots. Very friendly airfield with a nice little cafe, ask for access. Some of the farm buildings house aircraft, including those on the left and right as you enter, so you'll need to be escorted round. G-ARHF Aircoupe is in a farm building just before you enter the airfield - you'll also have to ask to be shown this as well as it's not usually accessible.

Terminal and Cargo Area Spotting Info
In the north of Norwich city off the A140 and signposted, these viewing spots are marked in the Spotting in the UK download. At the terminal there is a short-term car park (10 minutes free, £1 for 30 mins), however if you drive past the terminal and then turn the corner, there are a number of free parking spaces for 30 mins. This will allow you time to go into the terminal, where extensive views of the apron are possible, as well as the Air Livery hangar. There is also a grassed area to the left of the terminal. Next, return to the A140, turn left and stay in the left lane to take the next left onto Fifers Lane, signposted Air Freight. At the next set of lights turn left signposted Air Freight onto Hurricane Way, and turning left again at the back of Air Livery's hangar brings you out to views of the apron. You will be able to see most aircraft parked on the ramp, anything parked in front of the KLM hangars and any Bristow helicopters that aren't hidden. Back to Hurricane Way and turn left. Follow the road right to the end and there are a couple of car parks that face out to the north and the storage area - very useful for logging as some can be tucked right away and out of view from almost anywhere else.

A message from Special Branch at Norwich - they have asked for you all to be advised if seen filming or photographing in the vicinity of the fence outside Air Livery you may be taken to the terminal for questioning, which will be in depth and last over an hour. If seen elsewhere around the airfield, you will not be taken to the terminal but you are likely to be questioned about your activities. This is purely procedure, they are happy for us to go about our hobby, and you will be allowed to continue after they have finished.

    Watching Movements & Photography
From the freight area above, return to Fifers Lane and turn left. After a number of pedestrian lights and a roundabout, the road turns sharp right. Turn left here onto St. Faith's Road into a 20mph zone and continue until you reach a cemetery on the left. Park sensibly just beyond the cemetry, well clear of the crash gate. There are lay-bys and grass verges to use. Excellent views of the aircraft taking off and landing, just be wary of the security. Even if you are doing nothing wrong they have been known to cause problems.

    West Side Flying Clubs
As you leave terminal area via the one way system, turn right at the roundabout and head straight over the second. This road takes you round to the flying clubs, but you can stop along this road for views back towards the terminal apron, Air Livery, KLM, Bristows and the storage area in the northeastern corner by the old runway 22 threshold. To the right of the northeastern storage area is the scrapping area blocked on two sides by large grass banks. SaxonAir have hangars here, they are friendly, ask for access. Continue straight on for the other hangars. These are used by Bond Air Services, Bond Offshore and the East Anglian Air Ambulance. There's no access to any of these hangars so log what's parked outside from the road and from the other viewing points. From here you also get views across to the terminal apron, Air Livery, KLM and Bristows. Drive along the back of the hangars and at the end is a gate overlooking runway 09 threshold and the storage area beyond. There are also a couple of light aircraft parked up by the control tower near the museum.

Northern Storage Area & City of Norwich Aviation Museum
The main storage area is in the northwestern part of the airport, just west of the museum. Heading north on the A140 past the flying schools on the right, pull in to the large lay-by on the right for views of the storage area. For the City of Norwich Aviation Museum, continue north on the A140, straight over the roundabout (2nd exit) and take the first right. Then take the third right (at the second triangle junction) onto Old Norwich Road and follow to the end. Presumably it's also well signposted. Open 1000-1600 during the winter months, 1000-1700 in the summer, with Sundays and Bank Holidays 1100-1500 and 1200-1700 respectively. Entrance is £4.25. As you head towards the museum, keep looking left for N5880T WG-30 sat high on a mock helipad from an oil rig as a training aid. The museum has fine views over the airfield and the Aviation Centre has a first floor bar with views over the movements and main light aircraft park and hangar. Just inside the main gate in the car park is XW268 Harrier in pieces under a cover. The northwestern storage area can be seen best from the museum area. If anything parked on the northeastern storage area still eludes you, head back to Horsham Saint Faith village crossroads, turn right, then right again immediately. This leads to the Petans test facility but also to a crash gate thats look onto the storage area and quite possibly the scrapping/fire area too.

    TIBENHAM AIRFIELD - TWR 129.975

    Spotting Info
Head east out of village and airfield is on right. For entrance take next right after airfield. One big hangar and a smaller adjacent hangar house the fixed wing aircraft, with the gliders in various buildings. As you pass the first hangar on the right, on the right before the larger main hangar, and set back behind these hangars, is a small building housing the recently restored DH82. Ask in the clubhouse for access, friendly. And please make sure you do ask. There have been reports in the recent past of spotters wandering around without having asked permission and this clearly and understandably upset the airfield owners.
