COSFORD MUSEUM & AIRFIELD (EGWC) - TWR 128.65, APP 135.875

    Spotting Info
2 miles northwest of Albrighton in between the A464 and the A41 and signposted. If you're in the area, make sure you stop in, great museum and it's free. Car parking is £2 for 3 hours, £3 for 3-8 hours. As well as the museum exhibits, for one week twice a year, the Sir Michael Beetham Conservation Centre opens up for visitors to look at the ongoing restoration projects. For the military aircraft stored with the base, aviation companies arrange tours round here for a donation and it's well worth it. For the Grobs, from the M534 at J3 follow the signs to RAF Cosford. At the lights turn right and follow the road down to a crash gate, where the road bears round to the right. Continue round this road and the Grob 115s and 109s are just to your left if they aren't in the hangar. Everything outside can be read off from this road, and possibly a couple of Jaguars if the hangar doors are open, or park up in museum car park near the Brittania and walk back. If you walk through Hangar 1 you can possibly log some Grobs that are hangared and visible from the window at the end.

    HUGHLEY-MILL FARM AIRFIELD

    Spotting Info
Head west through Hughley village and then northwest towards Kenley. As you leave the village, you'll head round a left hand bend and the road straightens out. Take the first right, go round the right hand bend, and turn right on the left hand bend to continue straight ahead. As you get to the farm, turn left - this track takes you around the left hand side of the farm buildings. There are aircraft stored round this side of the farm buildings and hangars off to the left by the treeline.

    LONG MYND AIRFIELD - A/G 129.825

    Spotting Info
Head south into Church Stretton town on the A49 and at the main traffic lights, turn right and go over the railway bridge. At the crossroads with the bank in front of you, go straight over and follow the road round past the houses. Stay on this road for approximately 4 miles and the entrance is on the left. The road is narrow, one lane, but there are passing places so take care when driving along here. Access is via a gated drive - shut the gate after entering and again when leaving. Friendly, ask for access.

SHAWBURY AIR BASE (EGOS) - TWR 122.1, APP 126.5

    Spotting Info
Head north out of town on B5063 and take the first left. Lots of aircraft and helicopters based here in lots of hangars. They do base tours so it's best to join a tour group for full access or you can contact Shawbury directly to ask when their next available tour is. XR516 Wessex is the gate guard. XV123 Scout is preserved outside 660 Squadron building and only visible from the northside crash gate. The only outside view of the main apron is from the northside crash gate - take the B5063 past the main gate at Shawbury and take the first left turn after less than a mile. Go down this single track road and after passing a wood on your left, the road bends to the left. On the next right bend, take a sharp left turn and when the road bends slightly to the left, there is a farmhouse on your right, turn right here for the gate. Remember to park well clear. From here you can see everything outside on the ramps and the preserved Scout XV123 to the left of the hangars. All movements can be seen from here as well. On the dump you'll find XS713 Dominie with XT773 Wessex on its side.

Owner has advised visitors are welcome to sit and watch the movements but hangar access is not allowed. By all means ask for access though, some reports have indicated access given to wander round logging.

SLEAP AIRFIELD (EGCV) - TWR 122.45

    Spotting Info
Head south out of Wem village on the B5476 and after you've gone round two tight bends over a railway line, take the next right and follow the signs to the airfield. You can ask for access in the tower or clubhouse but these days it is usually, but not always, refused. If you can arrange a visit beforehand so someone will be there to escort you round the hangars then this might increase your chances (pilots and engineers are often happy to do this as it's the people in the clubhouse that aren't), and always take a hi-viz jacket just in case - you need to walk (you are not allowed to take your car) to the other side of the airfield for the other hangars. Calling or emailing the Aero Club beforehand might get you a favourable response, particularly if you show an interest in their museum and stopping by for some lunch. If no one is available you may get access to walk airside but not to enter the hangars and not to walk to the south side, but you can ask at any open hangars. Plenty of gaps if hangars are shut, though the new hangars only have gaps by the padlocks on the side doors. If access is denied, you can view from the area by the tower and the peri track you drive on to get to the tower, provided you do not go past the red and white barriers. There is a cafe here with a balcony which gives you a view towards the distant hangars and may enable 1 or 2 to be read off.
